Break the Seal...

Hola Bestie!
SOMEONE I know has a BIG birthday coming up!! Whut whut!!
And if it's going to be the biggest shindig of the century, we need to get to jumpin on the planning!
Jeez! 35!!
Heck, I still remember your 5th birthday party like it was yesterday! You wanted a goldfish themed party, but the cracker variety. Instead, your Mom had the real ones! Dozens of them! They were everywhere!
Oh! Remember the one that went all "Free Willy" next to the cake?! We spent 15 minutes trying to find him and he was hanging out under the napkin holder the whole time. May he rest in peace. LOL
35... do you feel old yet? Hey, at 37 I know I am! I bent over to pick up something at work the other day and pulled a muscle in my back! How is that even possible?!
But I got to thinking.... do you remember the pact we made? THE Pact?
We're a lot closer to that deadline than I'd realized. Me closer than you!
You remember.
You'd just dumped that jerk, Jeffrey - good riddance to bad rubbish - and were convinced you were going to die old and alone. I, being the spectacular friend that I am, graciously flung myself upon the sacrificial altar of matrimony and offered to marry you if neither of us had managed to get hitched by the time you turned 40.
You're welcome, by the way.
I believe there may have been tears, snot, and some argument about whether marrying me was actually preferable to dying alone, but the important thing is - you agreed. A deal is a deal, Bestie.
And now you're fixing to turn 35.
Five years.
Which is weird, right?
Because when you're 21, 40 sounds approximately 900 years old.
But here's the thing.
I've been thinking about that stupid pact a lot more than I probably should.
Okay. This got weird fast.
This was supposed to be a letter about your birthday.
We'll get back to that in a second...
But first, I've got something I wanted to say and I couldn't work up the nerve to say it face-to-face.
All of this thinking I've been doing has gotten me curious about something...
What if you and I went on a date?
You.
Me.
A real date.
No promises. No pressure.
I'm talking a real date. I pick you up, take you out - the works.
Not two besties hanging out. A DATE date.
Let's find out.
Are you in? Will you go out with me?
Anywho... back to the birthday bash. Hear me out: go big or go home. Formal. Red carpet. DJ. Ridiculously huge cake. The works. You only turn 35 once, so we might as well make everybody dress up and pretend we're classy for a night.
And regardless of your answer to my earlier question, we still have a birthday to plan. Thirty-five only happens once, and I fully intend to make you regret giving me any input whatsoever.
TTFN,
Guestie
PS: NO! This does NOT mean you were right about The Lake House! A mailbox cannot send letters through time. It’s ridiculous and I will die on that hill.
I just figured there are some things that are easier to put on paper.
Especially when the person you’re trying to say them to has known you long enough to watch you chicken out.
So, think about it.
But not for too long. Your Guestie has plans to make!
